Overworked
2D Platformer | PC | Unity | School Project | 6 weeks | 2021

Mood board made to envision how the game should be. An art style with lots of grey and pale colors, to make the colored obstacles stand out.

At the start, I planned on using three colors instead of two.

This level design uses the three colors, and some mechanics that didn't fit anymore once the idea was changed.

The level design changed multiple times even after the two colors change, but the overall structure stayed the same. The green color now became an obstacle you can't go through.
Pitch

Overworked is a short game where you control a character that can't attack but can change between two colors. If you are the same color as a obstacle, you can go right through it.
The objective is to rech the end of the level, and end the dream of this overworked man.

Project Description

For my first year at IIM, I had to make a game to validate my year and go into the video game branch. Since I had to program the game myself, I decided to do most of it myself, outside of the title screen art, background art, and the music.

I took from many inspirations, most notably Ikaruga for the color switching system and Karoshi for the visuals and themes of the story. The importance was to show my love for all these games that gave me this inspiration, demonstrate that I learned how they are made and make a level design with as many as possible in a short demo of 5 minutes and that I could develop myself as a beginner.
