Pitch

​

À contre-courant is a contemplative platformer game in which you play a koi fish who has to jump from a bubble to another to reach the end.

The player controls the fish with the mouse, aim the mouse to move the fish and left click to make the fish go forward.

Project Description

​

During the second half of my third year at IIM, I joined a team inside the association I am part of (Leo Indie Games) to make a game for the competition of an upcoming festival: the Hauts-de-Seine Digital Games.

​

The development really kicked off in April, the team was mostly composed of 2nd and 1st years, since at that time the 3rd years were in an internship. Those conditions added to the limited time we had influenced the concept of the game, a strong emphasis on art, writing and game feel. The gameplay had to be the less complex possible, and the level design linear to be able to follow the story told through diegetic text without frustration or missing part of the story.

We played on the strengths of the team, one of our programmers was a tech artist so we left the visual direction to her, one of the game artists was a writer so we left him in charge of the story etc.

​

In the end, the game was presented at the Festival in May 2023 and won "Best Game" in the 18+y.o category.
